Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We had a great meeting last Wednesday. Some club business included the club voting unanimously to approve a partnership agreement with the CPS Sixpence program. The agreement essentially just confirms the clubs support for the Sixpence mission and our desire to have them visit and update the club at least once a year. We also discussed dates for our annual upcoming spring Hwy cleanup project and settled on Wednesday May 1st. A signup sheet will be distributed soon for that event. Be sure to put it on your calendar!

Our club members have been invited by the Crete Youth Cabin Assoc. to join them and other volunteers to help out at their spring cleanup day this March 23rd. You can arrive anytime between 9am and 4pm to help. Our club has had a long association with the Youth Cabin and this is a chance to continue that partnership!

Janelle and Karen gave us information about an upcoming Polio Eradication fundraising event coming up on June 8th. It is called the Omaha Ride to End Polio. Karen will be riding in the event and our club has a chance to support her efforts by donating to the Polio eradication fund. All donations will be credited to our club, which is currently leading the district on a per/capita basis in donations. If we can keep that lead, we stand to earn up to $4,000 to be used for a community project in Crete! You can go to rotaryrides.org for more info.

The speaker for our meeting was Bob Burton, Founder of the Non-Profit “I’ve Got A Name” specializing in removing individuals in Sex Trafficking from the situation and reintroducing them into society safely.  In Nebraska, there are at least 900 individuals sold for sex every month, with 200 of those in Lincoln alone.  Bob estimates between 20-30 individuals come to them every month, and there’s only 2 outreach members on staff.
“I’ve Got A Name” finds these individuals or they’re referred to the organization, then start helping them—detoxing off drugs, getting identification, finding a place to live, help them with a resume, find a job, etc.
The Organization operates on three pillars: Awareness, Action, and Inspiration, and seek to instill 4 pillars into men specifically: accept responsibility, reject passivity, lead courageously, and expect a greater reward.  If you’d like to learn more, visit their website at ivegotaname.org or you can attend their “Walk for Freedom” in Lincoln on April 13th.  Thank you, Bob, for raising awareness with our club members.

Our next meeting is on March 27th at Doane at 5:30pm. Our speaker is Nicole Stoner. She is a UNL Extension Horticulturist and will visit with us about all things that grow (or in my case, don't grow).

We also just found out our District Governor, Kathryn Schubert will be joining us at the meeting and will give us a quick update on district news! So please plan to attend!
