Crete Rotary Club
Crete, NE
Thank you all who helped with our District Grant service project on October 8th!  We planted 4 trees in Rotary Park with the help of the City Park and Rec Director, and we planted 1 at the dog park to replace one of the trees, and the last tree was planted in Woodward Park.

At this week's meeting, we inducted Josh McDowell into membership!  He's been the superintendent at Crete Public Schools for four years, but this is his 21st year in public education.  He knew early on that he wanted to be in education and truly enjoys what he does.  He's originally from Grand Island, graduated from Doane, but has come back to Crete after teaching or leading in various school districts.  He's married to Jessica McDowell who is the Crete Intermediate School guidance counselor.  They have two children: Aidan who is 17 and Allison who is in 8th grade.  Welcome, Josh!  We look forward to having you!

Last but not least, we heard from Tyler Weishahn.  Tyler is the Assistant Manager of the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District or NRD.  There are 23 Natural Resources Districts along the river basins in Nebraska and together thy've built over 700 flood control structures since 1972 in over 80 recreation areas.  They've also planted 95 million trees since 1972 as well.  The Lower Big Blue services Jefferson, Pawnee, Gage and Saline counties and there are 13 watersheds in our district.  Overall, there are 12 main areas of responsibility: erosion prevention and control, prevention of flood damage, flood prevention and control, soil conservation, water supply development, water management and conservation, pollution control, waste disposal, drainage improvement, fish and wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation, and forestry and range management.  Some of their current projects are: yearly derby fishing for kids, sediment removal, dam real projects, beaver control, watershed flood prevention operations.  Thank you Tyler and the Lower Big blue NRD for all you do to control flooding within the rivers and help preserve them for years to come.
