Last Week- 17 members attended our regular meeting on Tuesday noon at TBH. Bob finally broke through and won his first weekly drawing. He donated $9 to our Polio Fund and like so many before him, did not find the Queen Of Spades in the deck. So the accumulating pot accumulates again.

During the "Announcements" segment Jim Fahrnbruch invited all the club members to join him, Jane and their family at their 50th Wedding Anniversary Open House. The event will be held at The Brew House on Sunday, May 27th from 2pm to 4pm.

Dave Bauer spoke to us about the upcoming changes to the downtown area this summer.  City blocks from about 11th to 14th north and south on Main and one block east and west on 13th will be affected.  Some of the changes include: replacing old awnings, creating pop-outs throughout the blocks for bench seating and a tree, and some businesses on those blocks receiving a “face lift.”  The goal is to create a more inviting atmosphere in downtown where residents, newcomers, and travelers want to spend their time.

These renovations are being paid for by the city, the community foundation (which Dave is a member of), and a grant the city received.  19 businesses have applied for grant money to change the look of their buildings!  All of these changes will take affect this summer, so he’s asking us to educate citizens if we hear questions.  He also mentioned some residents not seeing these changes as positive for various reasons.  He really wants these changes to be seen as positive so if there are questions or concerns, speak with him or a member of the community foundation.

This Week- In place of our regular Wednesday evening meeting, we will travel to Wilbur and tour the renovated Saline County Courthouse. Vicky will be our guide and the tour needs to start at 4:30 sharp. Members interested in car pooling should meet at TBH at 4:00.
