Last Week- 14 members attended our regular meeting last Wednesday at noon. Dr. Barb Clement was a guest of Jim Johnson and is considering becoming a Crete Rotarian. She and her husband Jim reside in Crete and Barb is a 19 year veteran of the Microbiology Dept. at Doane University. She retired in 2017 and last year taught in China and also helps manage the Crete Community Garden. She voiced her appreciation for the wonderful new  Community Garden arbor and fencing provided by our club.

Justin won the weekly drawing and donated $8 to both the club Scholarship and Dictionary funds. He did not draw the Queen of Spades so the pot grows.

David Sands spoke to us about the Nebraska Land Trust.  It’s a land conservation organization committed to preserving the agricultural, historical, and natural resources in Nebraska.  They work with private landowners to preserve the land.  A legal agreement is signed and then attached to the title of the land.  The group makes sure the agreements are being adhered to.  The group was founded in 2001 and since then have worked to gain national credibility and exposure, but also get the respect of landowners in Western Nebraska.

The benefits to preserving the land are: preservation of wildlife historical sites, and agriculture, provide scenic views, help with tourism, and water quality protection.  There is so much the Nebraska Land Trust does, so if you’re looking for more information or how to get involved, visit the Nebraska Land Trust website at: www.nelandtrust.org

This Week- We will not have a regular meeting this week as we are buying, preparing and serving the weekly Wednesday evening community meal at the UCC Church in Crete. Many members have volunteered and I will email the sign up sheet asap so you can see what time slot you signed up for. If you didn't sign up yet, please do, its going to be fun. We are serving pulled pork sandwiches with baked beans, chips and cookies/bars. Remember to bring a dozen or two cookies/bars. We are expecting to serve around 85 folks. Some diners will be regulars who will contribute a free will donation, but many are there for a free meal they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Judy Harms asked me to also spread the word that the Crete PTO is looking for some help at their plant sale project this Tuesday at the Crete Elementary gym. They need some help at the check in and check out tables anytime from 3 to 7pm. All of the work will be in the gym, so weather will not be a factor. It is not an official Rotary project- but they will definitely appreciate our support for those would can.

Have a great Week!
